Scary Motherfucker gets splatterpunked

Posted in craig spector, scary motherfucker radio, splatterpunk, Uncategorized on 11/30/2011 by vincentstark

The Scary Motherfucker Radio Show is proving to be  a great success and I’m pleased to confirm that we will be talking to Craig Spector in the new year – back in the day I read a novel called, The Light at the End which was written by Spector along with fellow New York Times bestseller John Skipp. At the time of the book’s original publication there was a new movement happening within the horror genre – called Splatterpunk, a term coined by David J Schrow, the movement contained many young authors with a visceral style – among them were such well known names as Clive Barker, Jack Ketchum, Joe Lansdale and of course Skipp and Spector.

I’m very much looking forward to recording the interview and know it will make for another great episode of Scary Motherfucker Radio – if anyone missed the first two episodes then find them HERE – episode one features and interview with Guy N. Smith while the second is with Jack Ketchum. So get on over to the Scary Motherfucker Radio website and don’t forget to be back to chew the fat with Craig Spector. The aim of the show is to eventually cover pretty much anyone who is anyone in the horror and dark fantasy field and it’ll be great to have as many of you as possible along for the ride.

Scary Radio

The place for all things fantastic

Horror, SF, Fantasy

A Magazine for your ears

Due to technical problems we have had to change our host for the Scary Motherfucker Radio show, but this has now been done and we have a data plan that will allow us to publish episodes every other week – our first two episodes have now been moved to the new home HERE – the first episode contains an interview with Guy N. Smith and the second with Jack Ketchum. We are updating the site to include show notes but in the meantime click on the authors names in this post to be taken  to their websites which contain links to all of their publications, both physical books and the new shiny eBooks.

Both interviews are well worth a listen and provide an insight into the life of two very different horror authors.

Of course you can subscribe to the show on iTunes and it would be great if listeners would leave an iTunes review which will allow us to reach a bigger audience.

And PLEASE tweet about the show, like us on Facebook and come back for all future episodes

Scary Radio – we turn it up to eleven

Posted in jack ketchum, scary motherfucker radio on 11/24/2011 by vincentstark

“First I had Bob (Robert Bloch) saying all these nice things about me and then Stephen King calls me the scariest guy in America. It was great, but I tell you who was really the scariest guy in America – George Bush.”

So said horror author Jack Ketchum in an interview for Chillerthriller’s Scary Radio which will be available both as a download and to be streamed online this coming weekend.

I caught up with Jack at 8pm EST which meant it was 1am over here in the UK – Ahh, the wonders of Skype which I still find incredible. We touched upon many subjects during out chat and Jack was witty and very forthcoming with his answers.

Jack’s one of one of the big names in horror fiction at the moment and as well as most of his books remaining in print, many are available electronically. So check them out folks.

Although the podcast/internet radio show is devoted largely to horror and dark fantasy I see no reason why I can’t have some future guests among the western writing community. That would be so cool since the western will always be my first love, and I have written several myself you know. Maybe I’ll go after Howard Hopkins who writes both horror fiction and westerns, sharing a publisher with myself for the latter. But horror fans need not worry as we have a string of horror writers lined up and sometime next year we will be talking to Graham Masterton who has always been a favorite of mine. Not only for his work in the horror field but because he once edited Mayfair and Penthouse –  monsters and  large breasts, everything the red blooded horror fan needs.

As they say – watch this space

Jack Ketchum talks to scary motherfucker radio

Posted in jack ketchum, scary motherfucker radio on 11/23/2011 by vincentstark

I’m really pleased with the way scarymotherfucker radio turned out and you can still listen to our first episode which includes an interview with Guy N. Smith HERE, or you can simply subscribe in iTunes or any other podast provider by clicking on this FEED. Tonight I’ll be recording an interview with horror master, Jack Ketchum for the next show which will go live this weekend. Those of you familiar with Ketchum’s books will know that he has a grim, unrelenting style that totally grips the reader. Not for nothing did Stephen King call him, “The scariest guy in America.”

Bursting onto the scene in 1980 with his highly controversial debut novel OFF SEASON, Ketchum has been awarded four Bram Stoker Awards and nominated for three others.

So I hope you all support the podcast by subscribing and if you could leave a review on iTunes that would be so cool and enable us to reach a bigger audience. I plan to make Scarymotherfucker Radio an essential show for horror and dark fantasy fans and have many more interviews in the pipeline, so tune in and if you haven’t yet listened to the first show then follow the link above and remedy that right now.

” The aim is to produce a show that you’ll be eager to hear.”

The highlight of the first episode is an interview with horror writer, Guy N. Smith and it’s now live, available on iTunes and everywhere else. You can listen to the show at the Chillerthriller Website, but it would be great if you’d download us through iTunes and give us a rating in the iTunes store.  iTunes ratings are a great way to get the show noticed and help us pick up more and more listeners.

Future episodes will find us interviewing more luminaries associated with the genres we cover so by supporting us you will help is create a show that is both unique and indespensible.

For our interview with Guy I travelled into Shropshire’s Black Hills – it was a very picturesque route from my base in South Wales which involved driving though the Brecon Beacons, Abergavenny, Hereford, Leominster, Knighton and the Black Hills beyond. Some of the views on the route were breathtaking.  When I arrived at Guy’s home I was greeted cordially and then shown around Guy’s library where I stared in wonder at the vast collection of vintage publications – the photograph at the top of this article was taking in Guy’s loft which has been converted into a grand looking library.

The Black Hills

The interview itself went really well

l with Guy chatting away about everything from his bestselling series, The Crabs to his New English Library days and pretty much everything in between.

So tune in folks – visit the Chillerthriller website HERE
